MacBook Air: the thin edge of the wedge?
January 17th, 2008 • Internet
A day of tears, of laughter, of debates over the merits of USB ports. Yep, Jobs whips out the world’s thinnest laptop, and I spend a morning with three web developers and designers chewing over the consequences. Our lives are really that empty.
What did we three conclude? You need more than one USB port, that’s for sure. Otherwise, you’re heaving around a USB adaptor, and that defeats the object of an ultralight, ultraslim laptop in the first place. And one us, with frigtening certainty, concluded that it was actually not much slimmer than his MacBook Pro. So it isn’t _thin_ at all, really, is it? And the price? Don’t get us started. Over two grand forn 64GB? Madness.
Quite why anyone would take our advice is beyond me. Not least because we bitched for a solid 30 minutes, then decided that two of us were ordering Airs immediately. I’d rather trust my colleague over at Stuff.tv, Tom Dunmore, who has the live report from the Macworld Show. And unlike our trio of armchair critics, Tom’s actually played with the damn thing.
Don’t buy it! Two grand and one USB port - utter lunacy.
